The
Duel Masters Trading Card Game Japanese Edition was first released
in May 2002, and became the
most popular trading card game in Japan within less than one year of
its release. In 2004, the year DM-10,
DM-11 and DM-12 (the final sets in English Duel Masters) were
released, Takara-Tomy came up
with
a restricted card list known as the Hall of Fame on 15th March that year. Two years
later, the card Bombazar,
Dragon of Destiny became the first card to be banned in official
play. This banned card list became
known as the Premium Hall of Fame.
In
Japan, sets are classified as normal sets, starter decks, theme
decks, power-up packs, half decks, Coro-Coro
Dream Packs, Super Deck Zeroes, Super Deck Crosses and most recently
Heroes Packs. As of 1st
June 2009, the latest set is DM-33 (Rising Dragon)
, the
latest constructed set is DMC-54 (Legend Chronicle - Rival)
and the latest starter set is DMS-05 (Best Challenger
Starter Deck).
The

as a means of promotion, but
since then has become a source of entertainment, spanning six full
